The Institute for Systems Physiology studies multiple physiological functions in health and pathology. We investigate systems physiology at multiple levels, from a single molecule to a living organism. The research at our institute ranges from i) neuroscience to ii) metabolism, iii) mitochondrial function and (iv) regulation of contractile processes of cardiac, skeletal and vascular and visceral smooth muscle. The overarching goal of our research groups is to characterize mechanisms of these physiological processes and understand the impact of disease and ageing on neuronal circuits, metabolic, contractile and mitochondrial function. We combine basic and a clinically oriented research.
